New Ranger UnitWe are very pleased to announce that we have a new Ranger unit in South Woodham Ferrers. This is for girls aged between 14 and 18 years old. Rangers are part of the Senior Section. Lots of activities have been planned up until Christmas and the new Rangers are having a great time. If you want to know more about it, please email the District CommissionerDistrict CampfireA very successful district campfire was held in October even though the weather had been rather wet earlier in the week. Songs were enjoyed by all, with Guides and Guiders leading the singing. Doughnuts and hot chocolate were welcomed by all. With the proceeds from the raffle approximately £200 was raised for our new hut project. New Zealand 2007A group of 3 South Woodham Ferrers guiders with a group of Guides and Senior Section members from Essex South East have just returned from a fantastic trip to New Zealand. A tour of North Island was organised by Girlguiding in New Zealand, and the trip also included a stop over in Singapore. The group had to raise about £1800 each in order to cover the cost.
World Jamboree3 Guides and Young Leaders from South Woodham participated in the World Scout Jamboree celebrating 100 years of Scouting held at Hylands Park. 3 Guides and 2 leaders also went on a day visit. It was an amazing experience meeting so many different people from so many different countries in such a friendly atmosphere. Scouts from the Jamboree also visited South Woodham in order to carry out some community activity - litter picking, painting an underpass, helping at Marsh Farm. To experience some of the fun that was the World Jamboree visit the Jamboree Website.District Mini-feteA very successful mini-fete was organised at the Guide Hut in South Woodham Ferrers in June. Although the weather was damp at times lot of parents, friends, and Brownies, Guides and Rainbows turned up to join in the fun. Activities included a bouncy castle, face painting, a coconut shy, guess the weight of the cake, a cake stall, white elephant stall, lucky dips and tombolas, lots of sideshows as well as some lovely refreshments. The event raised over £1000 towards the cost of the new Guide hut.
The New Guide HutThe existing Guide is reaching the end of its useful life and becoming more costly to maintain. The decision has been taken to have it replaced and of course the inevitable fund-raising follows. We want to give girls and young women a chance to experience Guiding in South Woodham and we need to have a safe environment in which to do it. Any help or support you can give would be most welcome - please contact the District Commissioner if you can help in any way. Please keep an eye on the website as we shall be advertising fund-raising events for you to support - an Auction of Promises will be held shortly. |
