New Hut Project

Our Guide Hut is now coming to the end of its useful life and the District has started to make plans to have it replaced with a target date of 2010 - the Guiding centenary. Needless to say it will cost a lot of money - in the region of £250,000 - not to mention time and effort to organise the whole project! Fund-raising has started and we have been successful in obtaining a grant that will at least help towards the cost of architects. Each of the units will be carrying out fund-raising activities over the next few years as will the District and we hope that local businesses and the community will also help us to reach our target. You can help by supporting our fund-raising activities or if you have other skills that you think will help please, such as filling in grant application forms, let us know by emailing the District Commissioner.

If you like shopping online, you can help raise funds for our new Guide hut at the same time! Up to 15% of your purchases could be donated to the hut fund and it won’t cost you anything extra. Retailers include many popular names such as Debenhams, NEXT, Amazon, John Lewis and HMV, as well as insurance companies and holiday companies.

You need to go to this website – www.easyfundraising.org.uk/southwoodhamferrers – and click on the "Register as a user" button. The charity will be filled in - “Girlguiding South Woodham Ferrers” - you then just fill in your name, email address and choose a password and click on the “Accept & Register” button. It’s as simple as that.

You will receive an email confirming your account is ready and giving you full details of how it all works. When you’re ready to shop click on the login button on the easyfundraising site and fill in your email address and password, then click on the retailer links to make your purchases. At the top you will be able to see the total raised for your chosen charity.

Recipe Book

1st SWF Brownies are putting together a recipe book of favourite recipes. If you would like to contribute please send an email with an original recipe. Include your details and connection with Girlguiding.

Literary Quiz

Do you like a challenge? What is HPATPS by JKR? Why not try our Literary Quiz (entry fee £2), identifying books and authors and win 1st or 2nd prize. Or if you’re not so hot on books, you might win the booby prize! The amount of the prizes depends on the number of quizzes sold (25% goes in prizes) – if each Rainbow/Brownie/Guide/ Young Leader/Ranger/Guider bought a copy for themselves and sold one more copy that would be about 500 copies, £1000 income (£750 for the hut) and £250 in prizes!! The closing date for entries is Thursday 24th April. You can download a copy of the quiz and send it in with your £2 when completed.

Marathon Run

Tracey, one of our Rettendon Guiders, will be running the London Marathon on 13th April in aid of SWF Girlguiding. Further information about sponsorship will be on the website nearer the time.
